French Auxiliary troops

The presence in the table-top of wheeled material (wagons, ambulance, field forges, pontoon trains...) increases the visual appeal of a wargame with miniatures and moreover allows to represent the Corps or Army assets that always accompanied the troops in the field in the Napoleonic era. That material was accompanied, at least in the French armies, by an array of Service troops including sanitary, armorers, drivers...

Internet (free) resources for the Campaign of Leipzig

Below there is a list of free resources related to the Campaign of Leipzig (1813) that can be downloaded (free!) from the web. Many of the files were found thanks to the services of members of the Napoleon-Series forum, particularly Steven H. Smith, whose dedication to dug in the Google books or Gallica services is invaluable. Other files came from different U.S. Army servers (because the Campaign of Leipzig is a succesful example of coalition warfare) and can be easily downloaded after an exact query in Google.

I'm back

Well, I returned from Antwerp (or Antwerpen) Belgium, a very friendly town.
I'll be at home a pair of days and after I'll be on travel again. No painting for now, but only a watch to my favourite web sites, and a great discovery: Mi Waterloo by Pedro Marquez from Spain, an astounding site with a very ingenious method to place a dioram in a room!

A little break

I'll be out next week for work duties. I travel to Antwerp (Belgium) to attend the EUROANALYSIS XIV, the major european congress about Analytical Chemistry.
I'll be very busy so my projected visit to Waterloo battlefield will wait until other occasion...what a pity!

Baden and Hessian contingents

The last (I hope!) of the French allied contingents is finished. The Baden and Hesse troops are easy painting conversion of suitable French figures because at that time, both countries followed the French style for military uniforms wearing black shakos. I have used HAT 8042 French Light Infantry and ITALERI 6066 French Infantry. The artillerymen were HAT 8028 Bavarian Infantry (Badeners) and ZVEZDA French Foot Artillery (Hessians).

Saxon Line Infantry

The Saxon contingent is complete! The Line units were again an easy painting conversion of French Line Infantry, this time mainly ITALERI 6066 post-1812 French Line and some (two exactly!) HAT 8042 post-1812 French Light .

The Tabletop Teasers blues

I remember the old days when I watched the arrival of the postman carrying the Military Modelling magazine that, at that time, incorporated Battle for Wargamers. The Charles S. Grant's section 'Tabletop teasers' was a must for me and my first solo-battle was the No. 8: The Hasty Defence and Relief of a Town (Military Modelling April '79 ) loosely based upon the battle of Dresden.
"..a one day action with a holding force in a poorly defended built up area, holding out (we hope) until sufficient reinforcements can arrive to turn the tide. On the other hand, we have a somewhat unco-ordinated but numerically considerably superior force aimed at taking the town and destroying the garrison".
Unfortunately, the magazines were lost in a house moving and in the shadows of time.... until today.
I have discovered, through the wonderful Emperor vs. Elector blog, a Tabletop Teaser refight in the MurdocK's MarauderS site (The Wagon Train),which at last led to me to the Steve's Wargame Pages site, containing many of the old Tabletop Teasers corresponding to years 1978 to 1982. The Scenarios are WORD documents with the figures and diagrams as jpg images.
I'll give these oldies a try!

Saxon Converged Grenadiers

The Saxon Grenadiers are finished (luckily only there were two battalions of them!). It's an easy paint conversion from the HAT 8042 French Light Infantry.
